As in past decades, today a rainbow of languages are spoken in the studio.
The yard, divided into spaces for the artists gives the impression of
a small Venetian Biennale with sculptors of every nationality. Walking
through the studio you can hear languages from every corner of the world
which suddenly mix with Italian slang and words for tools that the artists
pick up from the artisans.
In the yard, amidst ancient and
new dust, an ever changing museum meets the eye, the artists temporarily
place their finished works next to those of modern masters that Sem had
collected and which are now part of the Studio heritage; exemplary works
by Pietro Consagra, Alicia Penalba, Cèsar, Georges Adam to mention
a few. This heritage also includes a formidable collection of plaster
maquettes by modern masters as well as a precious photographic archive
representing the history of Contemporary sculpture that here, some of
its most celebrated work came to light.
